Display items in the Metric Browser

The Metric Browser shows the MBean types, currently registered and active instances of those types, and metrics (run-time MBean attribute containing metric data) for the selected server. By default, the Metric Browser displays this information only for MBean types that have currently active instances and metric attributes.

When you hover the cursor above an item displayed in the Metric Browser, a note window is displayed to provide details. For information, see Display summary notes about metrics and charts.

To display and select items in the Metric Browser:

To view the MBeans from a different server in the domain, select that server from the Server drop-down list. (You can display MBeans from only one server instance at a time, but you can create a chart using metrics from more than one server.)
For details, see Select the server to monitor.
To constrain the list of MBean types, registered instances, and metrics that are displayed in the Metric Browser to only those for which metric data has been collected, select Collected Metrics Only.
To view a list of all MBean types for the server even if they have no active instances, select Include All Types.
If an MBean type has no registered instances, the name of the MBean type appears in a gray, italic font. If no instances are registered, the Instances and Metrics list boxes are empty.
To show all currently registered and active instances of an MBean type, select the MBean type in the Types list box.
- You can optionally enter a filter string to constrain the list of types to those in which the display name contains the filter text.
- To clear a filter, click X next to the filter string.
The set of all currently registered instances of the selected MBean type are displayed in the Instances list box.
To show all metric attributes of a currently registered MBean instance, select the instance in the Instances list box.
- You can optionally enter a filter string to constrain the list to those in which any property key value of the instance name contains the filter text.
- To clear a filter, click X next to the filter string.
To show all currently registered and active MBean instances that have a specific metric, select the metric in the Metrics list box.
The list of MBean instances is constrained to only those that have the selected metric.
To constrain the list of metrics displayed in the Metrics list box, enter a filter. As the filter is applied, the list in the Instances list box is constrained as well to show only those containing the filtered list of metrics.

After you finish

To select a metric to be added to a chart, you must first select the specific MBean instance to which the metric corresponds. Once the MBean instance has been selected, the metrics for that instance are available to be added to the chart. For information, see Add metrics to a chart.
