45 The Mapping Workbench

Developers use the Mapping Workbench to build, define, and manage the mapping metadata through an easy-to-use, graphical interface. The Mapping Workbench can:

Automatically map descriptors
Generate database schemas from object models
Generate object models from database schemas
Generate entity beans (CMP and BMP)
Import an object model from any IDE or UML modeling tool
Connect and interact with any relational database with a JDBC-compliant driver

The Mapping Workbench supports multiple mapping options and enables you to map any Java object to any relational schema. You can easily and visually map Java business classes to the corresponding database fields.

The Mapping Workbench insulates developers from the database details, but allows them to leverage the database features.
