Upgrading from 9.0.2 or 9.0.4

Upgrade the EUL, preferences, and redo customizations in Oracle Application Server Control. For more information, see Section B.2, "Upgrading from Discoverer Version 9.0.2/9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0".

Discoverer connections are already stored in the OracleAS infrastructure and do not need to be upgraded.

For information about associating an OracleBI installation with a different OracleAS infrastructure, see Chapter 2, "Associating an OracleBI installation with an OracleAS infrastructure".

Upgrading from 4.1

Upgrade the EUL, preferences, Discoverer URLs, and redo customizations in Oracle Application Server Control. For more information, see Section B.3, "Upgrading from Discoverer Release 4.1 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0".

For information about associating an OracleBI installation with a different OracleAS infrastructure, see Chapter 2, "Associating an OracleBI installation with an OracleAS infrastructure".

Notes

To migrate Discoverer connections from one infrastructure installation to another, you might want to migrate the ORASSO_DS schema. For more information about migrating the ORASSO_DS schema, refer to the Exporting and Importing Data section (that covers the ssomig script) in the Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On Administrator's Guide.
When you use the migrateprefs command to migrate Discoverer preferences, if you omit the -from argument, Discoverer defaults the value to 904. For example, you might type the following to upgrade from Discoverer Release 9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0:

> <ORACLE_HOME_2>/discoverer/util/migrateprefs.sh

B.2 Upgrading from Discoverer Version 9.0.2/9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0

To upgrade from Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.2/9.0.4) to OracleBI Release 10.1.2.0.0, do the following:

Use OracleBI Discoverer Administrator version 10.1.2. to upgrade the End User Layer (EUL) to Version 10.1.2.0.0.
Use Oracle Application Server Control to re-do any customizations that you had in the earlier version of Discoverer. For example, you might have changed the look and feel (LAF) for Discoverer Plus Relational or the logo in Discoverer Viewer. For more information about customizing Discoverer, see Section 9, "Customizing OracleBI Discoverer"

Note: Discoverer only supports customizations made using the Discoverer customization pages in Oracle Application Server Control.
Upgrade the preferences (for more information, see Section B.2.2, "Upgrading to an OracleBI installation that is associated with an OracleAS infrastructure"
(optional) If the OracleBI Discoverer installation is associated with an OracleAS infrastructure, upgrade Discoverer Portlet Provider to use Discoverer Portlet Provider Version 9.0.4 with OracleBI Version 10.1.2.0.0 (for more information, see Section B.2.2, "Upgrading to an OracleBI installation that is associated with an OracleAS infrastructure").

Notes

Before you begin the upgrade process, we recommend that you confirm that the OracleBI installation was successful (for more information, see Section 1.4, "How to confirm an OracleBI Discoverer installation").
The instructions in this section assume the following:
- OracleAS Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 is installed into <ORACLE_HOME_1>
- OracleBI Release 10.1.2.0.0 is installed into <ORACLE_HOME_2>

B.2.1 Upgrading preferences

This section explains how to upgrade Discoverer preferences.

B.2.1.1 How to upgrade default user preferences

The pref.txt file specifies the default user preferences. To upgrade default user preferences, follow the steps below:

Compare the Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 pref.txt file with Version 10.1.2.0.0 pref.txt file, as follows:
- on UNIX, compare the <ORACLE_HOME_1>/discoverer/util/pref.txt with <ORACLE_HOME_2>/discoverer/util/pref.txt
- on Windows, compare the <ORACLE_HOME_1>\discoverer\util\pref.txt with <ORACLE_HOME_2>\discoverer\util\pref.txt
If changes have been made to the pref.txt file in the <ORACLE_HOME_1> directory, edit the pref.txt file in the <ORACLE_HOME_2> directory and make the same changes.
Apply the default preferences (for more information, see Section 10.5, "How to set user preferences for all users").

B.2.1.2 How to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0 on UNIX

If you are upgrading from one Oracle Home to another on the same computer running UNIX, follow the instructions below to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0:

Copy the .reg_key.dc file (from the location specified by the DC_REG environment variable) to the location specified for the .reg_key.dc file in Appendix A, "OracleBI Discoverer configuration files".
Upgrade the preferences by typing one of the following at a command prompt:

To migrate from Discoverer Release 9.0.4, type:

To migrate from Discoverer Release 9.0.2, type:

If you are upgrading from one computer to another computer running UNIX, follow the instructions below to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0:

Copy the .reg_key.dc file (from the location specified by the DC_REG environment variable) on the machine where Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 is installed to the location specified by the DC9_REG environment variable on the machine where Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0 is installed.
On the machine where Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0 is installed, type one of the following at a command prompt:

To migrate from Discoverer Release 9.0.4, type:

To migrate from Discoverer Release 9.0.2, type:

B.2.1.3 How to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0 on Windows

If you are upgrading from one Oracle Home to another on the same computer running Windows, follow the instructions below to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0:

Type the one of the following at a command prompt:

To migrate from Discoverer Release 9.0.4, type:

> <ORACLE_HOME_2>\discoverer\util\migrateprefs.bat
```
To migrate from Discoverer Release 9.0.2, type:
```
> <ORACLE_HOME_2>\discoverer\util\migrateprefs.bat -from 902
```
This command copies user level preferences from the Windows registry to a file called reg_key.dc.

If you are upgrading from one computer to another computer running Windows, follow the instructions below to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0:

On the machine where Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 is installed:
1. From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
2. In the Run window, type regedit and press [Enter].
3. In the Registry Editor, open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle\DISCVR9 registry key.
4. Choose Registry | Export Registry File to export the registry key to a file.
5. Specify a name for the registry export file.
Copy the registry export file from the machine where Discoverer Release 9.0.2/9.0.4 is installed to the machine where Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0 is installed.
On the machine where Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0 is installed:
1. From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
2. In the Run window, type regedit and press [Enter].
3. In the Registry Editor, choose Registry | Import Registry File.
4. Specify the name of the registry export file to import.
Upgrade the preferences by typing one of the following at a command prompt:

To migrate from Discoverer Release 9.0.4, type:

> <ORACLE_HOME_2>\discoverer\util\migrateprefs.bat
```
To migrate from Discoverer Release 9.0.2, type:
```
> <ORACLE_HOME_2>\discoverer\util\migrateprefs.bat -from 902
```

B.2.2 Upgrading to an OracleBI installation that is associated with an OracleAS infrastructure

If you upgrade to an OracleBI Discoverer installation that is associated with an OracleAS infrastructure, you must manually update the metadata repository (MR) if you want to use Discoverer Portlet Provider.

Use the Metadata Repository Update Assistant (MRUA) to update the metadata repository (MR) from version 9.0.2/9.0.4 to version 10.1.2. For more information, see Section 2.3, "How to upgrade a 9.0.4 metadata repository to work with Discoverer Portlet Provider Version 10.1.2".

B.3 Upgrading from Discoverer Release 4.1 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0

To upgrade from OracleAS Release 1 (1.0.2.2) to OracleBI Release 10.1.2.0.0, do the following:

Use OracleBI Discoverer Administrator version 10.1.2. to upgrade the End User Layer (EUL) to Version 10.1.2.0.0.
Use Oracle Application Server Control to re-do any customizations that you had in the earlier version of Discoverer. For example, you might have changed the look and feel (LAF) for Discoverer Plus Relational or the logo in Discoverer Viewer. For more information about customizing Discoverer, see Section 9, "Customizing OracleBI Discoverer"

Note: Discoverer only supports customizations made using the Discoverer customization pages in Oracle Application Server Control.
Upgrade the preferences (for more information, see Section B.3.1, "Upgrading preferences").
Update the Discoverer URLs (for more information, see Section B.3.2, "Updating URL references").

Notes

Before you begin the upgrade process, we recommend that you confirm that the OracleBI installation was successful (for more information, see Section 1.4, "How to confirm an OracleBI Discoverer installation").
The instructions in this section assume the following:
- OracleAS Release 1 (1.0.2.2) is installed into <ORACLE_HOME_1>
- OracleBI Release 10.1.2.0.0 is installed into <ORACLE_HOME_2>

B.3.1 Upgrading preferences

This section explains how to upgrade Discoverer preferences.

B.3.1.1 How to upgrade default user preferences

The pref.txt file specifies the default user preferences. To upgrade default user preferences, follow the steps below:

Compare the Release 4.1 pref.txt file with Version 10.1.2 pref.txt file, as follows:
- on UNIX, compare the <ORACLE_HOME_1>/discwb4/util/pref.txt with <ORACLE_HOME_2>/discoverer/util/pref.txt
- on Windows, compare the <ORACLE_HOME_1>\discwb4\util\pref.txt with <ORACLE_HOME_2>\discoverer\util\pref.txt
If changes have been made to the pref.txt file in the <ORACLE_HOME_1> directory, edit the pref.txt file in the <ORACLE_HOME_2> directory and make the same changes.
Apply the default preferences (for more information, see Section 10.5, "How to set user preferences for all users").

B.3.1.2 How to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 4.1 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2 on UNIX

If you are upgrading from one Oracle Home to another on the same computer running UNIX, follow the instructions below to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 4.1 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2:

Copy the .reg_key.dc file (from the location specified by the DC_REG environment variable) to the location specified for the .reg_key.dc file in Appendix A, "OracleBI Discoverer configuration files".

Hint: To find out the location of the .reg_key.dc file in Discoverer Release 4.1, look in the discwb.sh file in ORACLE_HOME/<installation>/discwb4.

Type the following at a command prompt (on UNIX):

> <ORACLE_HOME_2>/discoverer/util/migrateprefs.sh -from 102

If you are upgrading from one computer to another computer running UNIX, follow the instructions below to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 4.1 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2:

Copy the .reg_key.dc file (from the location specified by the DC_REG environment variable) on the machine where Discoverer Release 4.1 is installed to the location specified by the DC9_REG environment variable on the machine where Discoverer Version 10.1.2 is installed.
On the machine where Discoverer Version 10.1.2 is installed, type the following at a command prompt (on UNIX):

> <ORACLE_HOME_2>/discoverer/util/migrateprefs.sh -from 102
```

B.3.1.3 How to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 4.1 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2 on Windows

Type the following at a command prompt:

> <ORACLE_HOME_2>\discoverer\util\migrateprefs.bat -from 102
```
This command copies user level preferences from the Windows registry to a file called reg_key.dc.

If you are upgrading from one computer to another computer running Windows, follow the instructions below to upgrade user level preferences from Discoverer Release 4.1 to Discoverer Version 10.1.2:

On the machine where Discoverer Release 4.1 is installed:
1. From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
2. In the Run window, type regedit and press [Enter].
3. In the Registry Editor, open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle\WebDisco4 registry key.
4. Choose Registry | Export Registry File to export the registry key to a file.
5. Specify a name for the registry export file (e.g. disco41prefs.reg).
Copy the registry export file from the machine where Discoverer Release 4.1 is installed to the machine where Discoverer Version 10.1.2 is installed.
On the machine where Discoverer Version 10.1.2 is installed:
1. From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
2. In the Run window, type regedit and press [Enter].
3. In the Registry Editor, choose Registry | Import Registry File.
4. Specify the name of the registry export file to import (e.g. disco41prefs.reg).
Upgrade the preferences by typing the following at a command prompt:

```

B.3.2 Updating URL references

All Discoverer Viewer and Discoverer Plus URL references have changed between Discoverer Release 4.1 and Discoverer Version 10.1.2.0.0. These changes include (but are not limited to) links within the Web site and client bookmarks. You must manually replace all occurrences of old URLs with the new URLs, using the table below as a guide:
