There are number of monitoring tools available. Moreover, i came across a\u00a0IPTraf<\/strong>\u00a0monitoring tool which i find very useful and it\u2019s a simple tool to monitor\u00a0Inbound<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Outbound<\/strong>\u00a0network traffic passing through interface.<\/p>\n

Install IPTraf LAN Monitoring<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

IPTraf<\/strong>\u00a0is an ncurses-based\u00a0IP LAN<\/strong>\u00a0monitoring tool (text-based) wherein we can monitor various connections like\u00a0TCP<\/strong>,\u00a0UDP<\/strong>,\u00a0ICMP<\/strong>,\u00a0non-IP<\/strong>\u00a0counts and also\u00a0Ethernet<\/strong>\u00a0load information etc.<\/p>\n

This article guides you on how to install\u00a0IPTraf<\/strong>\u00a0monitoring tool using\u00a0YUM<\/strong>\u00a0command.<\/p>\n

Installing IPTraf<\/h3>\n

IPTraf<\/strong>\u00a0is part of the Linux distribution and can be installed on\u00a0RHEL<\/strong>,\u00a0CentOS<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Fedora<\/strong>\u00a0server\u2019s using yum command from terminal.<\/p>\n

# yum install iptraf<\/pre>\n
Under\u00a0Ubuntu<\/strong>, iptraf can be installed using\u00a0Ubuntu Software Center<\/strong>\u00a0or \u2018apt-get\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0method. For example, use the \u2018apt-get<\/strong>\u2018 command to install it.<\/p>\n
$ sudo apt-get install iptraf<\/pre>\n
IPTraf Usage<\/h5>\n
Once\u00a0IPTraf<\/strong>\u00a0installed, run the following command from the terminal to launch an ascii based menu interface that will allow you to view current\u00a0IP traffic monitoring<\/strong>,\u00a0General interface statistics<\/strong>,\u00a0Detailed interface statistics<\/strong>,\u00a0Statistical breakdowns<\/strong>,\u00a0Filters<\/strong>\u00a0and also provide some\u00a0configure<\/strong>\u00a0options where you can configure as per your need.<\/p>\n

Using \u201ciptraf -i<\/strong>\u201d will immediately start the IP traffic monitor on a particular interface. For example, the following command will start the IP traffic on interface\u00a0eth0<\/strong>. This is the primary interface card that attached to your system. Else you can also monitor all your network interface traffic using argument as \u201ciptraf -i all<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n
# iptraf -i eth0<\/pre>\n

Similarly, you can also monitor\u00a0TCP\/UDP<\/strong>\u00a0traffic on a specific interface, using the following command.<\/p>\n
