{"id":11722,"date":"2019-03-16T00:39:23","date_gmt":"2019-03-16T00:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.appservgrid.com\/paw92\/?p=11722"},"modified":"2019-03-16T00:39:23","modified_gmt":"2019-03-16T00:39:23","slug":"ubuntu-16-04-lts-xenial-xerus-installation-guide-classics-retro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.appservgrid.com\/paw92\/index.php\/2019\/03\/16\/ubuntu-16-04-lts-xenial-xerus-installation-guide-classics-retro\/","title":{"rendered":"Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) Installation Guide (classics retro)."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\">A little too early, not too late.<\/del><\/p>\n<p><del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\">Here, we already have a guided installation procedure on the next iteration of the world\u2019s most popular free operating system \u2014 Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.<\/del><\/p>\n<p><del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\">Canonical currently released the first beta images of Ubuntu 16.04; however, there\u2019s no standard Unity flavor at this time and sadly, we won\u2019t be seeing it until the 24th of March \u2013 which is the release date for beta 2 \u2014 and we should see stable builds emerging in by April 21st \u2014 followed by subsequent release candidates.<\/del><\/p>\n<p><del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\">If you\u2019re worried on how this guide will work with the first point release, worry no more as the installation procedure hasn\u2019t changed so much from the previous releases so if you are familiar with the installation of previously released Ubuntu versions, then you shouldn\u2019t find it too hard breezing through with this one.<\/del><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus<\/strong>\u00a0is now official and you can download either the 32bit or 64bit ISO images from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/releases.ubuntu.com\/16.04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve done that, you may now continue with the installation procedure which is absolutely straight forward; however, if you do run into problems, you can always leave a comment down below.<\/p>\n<p>We also covered on how you can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tecmint.com\/install-ubuntu-16-04-alongside-with-windows-10-or-8-in-dual-boot\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dual boot Ubuntu 16.04 with your current windows 10 or 8 system<\/a>\u00a0even though we have a previous guide on that subject here \u2013 just call this an updated version.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for Server Edition installation, read our article:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tecmint.com\/installation-of-ubuntu-16-04-server-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Installation of Ubuntu 16.04 Server<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you\u2019re probably familiar with, the installation of multiple OSes in a dual\/triple boot configuration requires a bit of technical expertise from your end \u2013 as you might have to go into your BIOS or UEFI (on newer systems) to do some manual configuration but that shouldn\u2019t be too difficult.<\/p>\n<p>For systems with legacy BIOS, all you\u2019ll need to do is change the boot order and depending on your system, you might have to press the\u00a0<strong>F2<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>F10<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>F12<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>DEL<\/strong>\u00a0key to enter your BIOS (you might need to Google your way around that) \u2013 while on the latter i.e UEFI, you\u2019d mostly need to disable secure boot and fast boot and enable legacy support \u2014 that is, if the OS you\u2019re trying to install doesn\u2019t have UEFI support baked in by default \u2013 but, such isn\u2019t the case of\u00a0<strong>Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04 LTS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ubuntu 16.04 LTS comes with UEFI support and it should install just fine on your PC \u2013 be it in a dual boot fashion or a single install.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, pre-requisites, we must get.<\/p>\n<p><del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\">Ubuntu is currently only available as an alpha install and you can proceed and download the most recent daily build image from here.<\/del><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019d assume you\u2019ve downloaded the latest stable build from the official Ubuntu mirrors as provided in the links above.<\/p>\n<p>Once, you have your ISO image ready, you may now proceed to creating a bootable disk with\u00a0<strong>Rufus<\/strong>, or universal USB installer. You\u2019d mostly want to go with the former as it\u2019s as straight forward as (making an installable USB) can get \u2013 moving forward, get your PC set (plug it in), make sure you\u2019re connected to the internet and you\u2019re good to go.<\/p>\n<p><del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\"><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0Given the time at which this article was originally published, the standard Ubuntu flavor is only available in alpha; however, we\u2019ll be update this guide (if needed) once the beta 2 image is available for download and the stable release too.<\/del><\/p>\n<p>At this point, we\u2019ve updated the article as promised so you may proceed with full confidence in the procedure.<\/p>\n<p>The curated list of features to be expected with the final build of Ubuntu include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>First Ubuntu LTS to ship Systemd as the default service manager.<\/li>\n<li>Mir display server.<\/li>\n<li>Ubuntu 16.04 will ship in two variants, one with Unity 7 and another with Unity 8. With the latter expected to become standard after the release of 16.10.<\/li>\n<li>Unity launcher position change (to whatever side of the screen you want to place it).<\/li>\n<li>The server filesystem ZFS will also be implemented in the next LTS release.<\/li>\n<li>Linux kernel 4.4 will ship with 16.04 LTS.<\/li>\n<li>Considering it being an LTS release, you\u2019ll also get 5 years ongoing software support.<\/li>\n<li>Gnome software center to replace Ubuntu\u2019s archaic software center experience.<\/li>\n<li>The Ubuntu devs\u00a0<del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\">also hope to implement Snappy<\/del>\u00a0have implemented Snappy with Unity 7 which is the GUI of Xenial Xerus.\u00a0<del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\">however, it\u2019s unlikely that it will be ready be the time Xenial Xerus will be making its way to the market by April<\/del>.<\/li>\n<li>Firmware updates via the Gnome software center is also a possibility.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2016-04-21T17:57:46+00:00\">After being severely bashed by privacy advocates, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will finally turned off by default, the controversial online search (that gathers search results from the likes of Wikipedia and Amazon when you launch the dash to search for something locally stored on your PC).<\/del>\u00a0It\u2019s now turned off by default.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"attachment_19184\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tecmint.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/settings-privacy-change.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19184\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19184\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tecmint.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/settings-privacy-change.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tecmint.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/settings-privacy-change.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.tecmint.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/settings-privacy-change-768x576.png 768w\" alt=\"Ubuntu Settings Privacy Change\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" data-lazy-loaded=\"true\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ubuntu Settings Privacy Change<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Once we have all that cleared up, you may now proceed.<\/p>\n<h3>Ubuntu 16.04 Installation Guide<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0First off, plug in your USB drive into the intended install PC after which you\u2019ll power the said system up and boot from USB disk (provided you\u2019ve done the needed BIOS or UEFI configuration as mentioned above).<\/p>\n<p>And you are greeted with what may seem a familiar screen \u2013 depending on how much time you\u2019ve had with Ubuntu and derivatives in the past. for any Linux user is to update the system once it\u2019s done installing \u2013 hence, a brief how-to-update walkthrough.<\/p>\n<p>First off, go on to the\u00a0<strong>Unity<\/strong>\u00a0dash (which is the square button on the top left corner in the image above and below) and search for\u00a0<strong>\u201csoftware and updates\u201d<\/strong>, open it and select the\u00a0<strong>\u201cother
