He isn&#8217;t scheduled to speak, but &#8220;this is his first step back<br \/>\nin taking over Linux&#8217;s reins.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linspirelinux.com\/2018\/10\/linspire-80-rc1-released.html\">Linspire<br \/>\n8.0 RC1 was released<\/a> over the weekend. The stable release is<br \/>\nexpected in December (don&#8217;t use this release in production environments),<br \/>\nand RC2, which should be more feature-complete, is expected in November.<br \/>\nAmong other changes, in this version, iMac Pro support has been improved<br \/>\nand Oracle Java is now in the repositories. It uses the MATE 1.20.1<br \/>\ndesktop, kernel 4.15 and Chrome 69.<\/p>\n<p>IPFire 2.21 &#8211; Core Update 124 is out, and according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipfire.org\/news\/ipfire-2-21-core-update-124-released\">release<br \/>\nannouncement<\/a>, it &#8220;brings new features and immensely improves security and<br \/>\nperformance of the whole system&#8221;. It&#8217;s now <a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/marketplace\/pp\/B07HYRD4FX\">available on AWS<br \/>\nEC2<\/a>, is<br \/>\nupdated to kernel version 4.14.72 and the security of its SSH daemon has<br \/>\nbeen improved, among other new features.<\/p>\n<p>A recently discovered Apache vulnerability could affect thousands of<br \/>\napplications. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darkreading.com\/application-security\/apache-access-vulnerability-could-affect-thousands-of-applications\/d\/d-id\/1333065\">Dark<br \/>\nReading reports<\/a> that the issue is with &#8220;the way that thousands of code<br \/>\nprojects are using Apache .htaccess, leaving them vulnerable to<br \/>\nunauthorized access and a subsequent file upload attack in which<br \/>\nauto-executing code is uploaded to an application.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linuxjournal.com\/content\/linux-kernel-419-released-linus-torvalds-back-linspire-80-rc1-out-ipfire-221-now-available\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News briefs for October 22, 2018.
