One of the most important uses of a network is for file sharing purposes. There are multiple ways Linux and Windows, Mac OS X users on a network can now share files with each other and in this post, we shall cover\u00a0Nitroshare<\/strong>, a cross-platform, open-source and easy-to-use application for sharing files across a local network.<\/p>\n

Nitroshare<\/strong>\u00a0tremendously simplifies file sharing on a local network, once installed, it integrates with the operating system seamlessly. On\u00a0Ubuntu<\/strong>, simply open it from the applications indicator, and on\u00a0Windows<\/strong>, check it in the system tray.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it automatically detects every other device on a network that has Nitroshare installed thereby enabling a user to easily transfer files from one machine to another by selecting which device to transfer to.<\/p>\n

      How To Install Nitroshare on Linux Systems<\/h3>\n

      NitroShare is developed to run on a wide variety of modern Linux distributions and desktop environments.<\/p>\n

      On Debian Sid and Ubuntu 16.04+<\/h4>\n

      NitroShare is included in the Debian and Ubuntu software repositories and can be easily installed with the following command.<\/p>\n

      $ sudo apt-get install nitroshare\r\n<\/pre>\n
      But the available version might be out of date, however, to install the latest version of Nitroshare, issue the command below to add the PPA for the latest packages:<\/p>\n
      $ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:george-edison55\/nitroshare\r\n$ sudo apt-get update\r\n$ sudo apt-get install nitroshare\r\n<\/pre>\n
      On Fedora 24-23<\/h4>\n
      Recently, NitroShare has been included to Fedora repositories and can be installed with the following command:<\/p>\n
      $ sudo dnf install nitroshare\r\n<\/pre>\n
      On Arch Linux<\/h4>\n
      For Arch Linux, NitroShare packages are available from the AUR and can be built\/installed with the following commands:<\/p>\n
      # wget https:\/\/aur.archlinux.org\/cgit\/aur.git\/snapshot\/nitroshare.tar.gz\r\n# tar xf nitroshare.tar.gz\r\n# cd nitroshare\r\n# makepkg -sri\r\n<\/pre>\n
      How to Use NitroShare on Linux<\/h3>\n
      Note<\/strong>: As I had already mentioned earlier on, all other machines that you wish to share files with on the local network must have Nitroshare installed and running.<\/p>\n
      After successfully installing it, search for\u00a0Nitroshare<\/strong>\u00a0in the system dash or system menu and launch it.<\/p>\n

      NitroShare is very easy to use, you will find options to \u201cSend Files<\/strong>\u201c, \u201cSend Directory<\/strong>\u201c, \u201cView Transfers<\/strong>\u201c, etc from the\u00a0AppIndicator<\/strong>\u00a0\/\u00a0tray<\/strong>\u00a0icon menu, choose the files or directory that you want to send and you will get a list of available devices on your local network that runs NitroShare:<\/p>\n

      After selecting the files, click on \u201cOpen<\/strong>\u201d to proceed to choosing the destination device as in the image below. Select the device and click \u201cOk<\/strong>\u201d that is if you have any devices running Nitroshare on the local network.<\/p>\n
