This tutorial concentrates on how to perform a graphical installation of\u00a0Red Hat Enterprise<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0CentOS 7.0<\/b>\u00a0from a remote point in\u00a0VNC Direct Mode<\/b>\u00a0using Anaconda included locally VNC server and how to partition a hard-disk smaller than 2TB with a GPT Partition Table Layout on non-UEFI systems.<\/p>\n

Install RHEL\/CentOS 7 Remotely Using VNC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In order to access the graphical installation, your remote system that will control the installation process, requires a VNC viewer program installed and running on your machine.<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. Installation of RHEL 7.0<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Installation of CentOS 7.0<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. An VNC client installed on a remote system<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Step 1: Boot RHEL\/CentOS Media Installer in VNC Mode<\/h3>\n

    1.<\/strong>\u00a0After the installer bootable media has been created, place your DVD\/USB into your system appropriate drive, start the machine, select your bootable media and on the first prompt press\u00a0TAB<\/b>\u00a0key and the boot options should appear.<\/p>\n

    In order to start b>Anaconda VNC server with a password to restrict access to installation and force your hard-disk smaller than\u00a02TB<\/b>\u00a0in size to be partitioned with a\u00a0GPT<\/b>\u00a0valid partition table, append the following options to boot menu command line.<\/p>\n

    As you can see I\u2019ve added an extra option to force graphical installation resolution to a custom size \u2013 replace resolution values with your desired values.<\/p>\n
    2.<\/strong>\u00a0Now press\u00a0Enter<\/b>\u00a0key to start the installer and wait until it reaches the message where it shows you the\u00a0VNC IP Address and Port<\/b>\u00a0number to enter, in order to connect, on client side.<\/p>\n

    That\u2019s it! Now the installation process is ready to be configured from a remote system using a VNC Client.<\/p>\n
    Step 2: Configure VNC Clients on Remote Systems<\/h3>\n
    3.<\/strong>\u00a0As a previously mentioned, in order to be able to perform a VNC installation remote systems requires a running VNC Client. The following VNC clients are available, depending on your Operating System.<\/p>\n
    For\u00a0RHEL<\/b>\/CentOS 7.0<\/b>\u00a0installed with a Graphical User Interface open\u00a0Remote Desktop Viewer<\/b>, hit on\u00a0Connect<\/b>button and choose\u00a0VNC for Protocol<\/b>\u00a0and add\u00a0VNC IP Address<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Port<\/b>\u00a0presented on the system where you perform the installation.<\/p>\n

    4.<\/strong>\u00a0After the VNC Client connects to installer, you will be prompted to enter the VNC installer password. Enter the password, hit\u00a0Authenticate<\/b>\u00a0and a new window with CentOS\/RHEL Anaconda graphical interface should appear.<\/p>\n
    From here, you can continue with the installation process in the same manner as you would do it from a directly connected monitor, using the same procedure as described\u00a0RHEL\/CentOS 7.0 Installation Guide<\/b>\u00a0links provide above.<\/p>\n

    5.\u00a0<\/strong>For Debian based distributions (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, etc) install\u00a0Vinagre<\/b>\u00a0package for GNOME desktop environment and use the same procedure as explained above.<\/p>\n

      7.<\/strong>\u00a0If you want to see details about your disk partition layout which now uses GPT on a disk smaller than 2TB, go to\u00a0Installation Destination<\/b>, select your disk and the partition table should be visible and a new\u00a0biosboot<\/b>\u00a0partition should be automatically created.<\/p>\n
      If you opted for\u00a0Automatically create partitions<\/b>, in the contrary case you should create one as\u00a0Standard Partition<\/b>\u00a0with\u00a0Bios Boot<\/b>\u00a0as a\u00a0File System<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a01 MB<\/b>\u00a0in size on\u00a0non-UEFI<\/b>\u00a0systems.<\/p>\n

      As a last note, if you are planning to use\u00a0MBR Partition Layout<\/b>\u00a0on a disk smaller than 2TB on\u00a0UEFI<\/b>\u00a0based systems, you must initially reformat your hard-disk, and, then create a\u00a0Standard Partition<\/b>\u00a0with\u00a0EFI System Partition (efi)<\/b>\u00a0as\u00a0File System<\/b>\u00a0with a minimal value of\u00a0200 MB<\/b>\u00a0in size, regardless of your partitioning scheme.<\/p>\n
