\u2018<b>python<\/b>\u2018 and \u2018<b>pip<\/b>\u2018. Make sure you have installed python and pip before installing \u2018<b>cheat<\/b>\u2018 on the system.<\/p>\n<h5>Install Python<\/h5>\n<pre># apt-get install Python\t(On <b>Debian<\/b> based Systems)\r\n# yum install python\t\t(On <b>RedHat<\/b> based Systems)<\/pre>\n<h5>Install Pip<\/h5>\n<pre># apt-get install python-pip \t(On <b>Debian<\/b> based Systems)\r\n# yum install python-pip \t(On <b>RedHat<\/b> based Systems)<\/pre>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: pip is an easy install replacement and is intended to be an improved Python package installer.<\/p>\n<h4>Download and Install Cheat<\/h4>\n<p>We will be downloading \u2018cheat\u2019 from Git. Make sure you have package \u2018git\u2019 installed, if not better install this first.<\/p>\n<pre># apt-get install git\t(On <b>Debian<\/b> based Systems)\r\n# yum install git\t(On <b>RedHat<\/b> based Systems)<\/pre>\n<p>Next, install the required python dependencies by running following command.<\/p>\n<pre># pip install docopt pygments<\/pre>\n<p>Now, clone the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tecmint.com\/install-git-to-create-and-share-your-own-projects-on-github-repository\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Git repository<\/a>\u00a0of cheat.<\/p>\n<pre># git clone https:\/\/github.com\/chrisallenlane\/cheat.git<\/pre>\n<p>Move to the cheat directory and run \u2018<b>setup.py<\/b>\u2018 (a python script).<\/p>\n<pre># cd cheat\r\n# python setup.py install<\/pre>\n<p>If installation goes smoothly, you should be able to see a cheat version installed on the system.<\/p>\n<pre># cheat -v \r\n\r\ncheat 2.0.9<\/pre>\n<h4>Required Configuration for Cheat<\/h4>\n<p>You must have an \u2018<b>EDITOR<\/b>\u2018 environment variable set in \u2018~\/.bashrc\u2019 file. Open the user \u2018<b>.bashrc<\/b>\u2018 file and add the following line to it.<\/p>\n<pre>export EDITOR=\/usr\/bin\/nano<\/pre>\n<p>You can use your favourite editor here in place of \u2018<b>nano<\/b>\u2018. Save the file and logout. Again Login to make the changes taken into effect.<\/p>\n<p>Next, add the cheat autocompletion feature to enable command-line autocompletion for different shells. To enable autocompletion, simply clone the \u2018<b>cheat.bash<\/b>\u2018 script and copy the script to the appropriate path in your system.<\/p>\n<pre># wget https:\/\/github.com\/chrisallenlane\/cheat\/raw\/master\/cheat\/autocompletion\/cheat.bash \r\n# mv cheat.bash \/etc\/bash_completion.d\/<\/pre>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: The team has uploaded other shell\u2019s auto completion scrip to Git, which may be cloned and used in case of respective Shell. To active syntax highlighting feature, add a\u00a0<b>CHEATCOLORS<\/b>\u00a0environment variable in your \u2018<b>.bashrc<\/b>\u2018 file.<\/p>\n<pre>export CHEATCOLORS=true<\/pre>\n<p>The Cheat application default program only serves the basic and most used commands. The content of cheat-sheet resides at location\u00a0<b>~\/.cheat\/<\/b>. Manual Cheatsheets can be added to this location to make the application rich.<\/p>\n<pre># cheat -e xyz<\/pre>\n<p>This will open xyz cheat-sheet if available. If not it will create one. The cheat-sheet will be opened in the default\u00a0<b>EDITOR<\/b>, we set in\u00a0<b>.bashrc<\/b>\u00a0in the configuration stage, above.<\/p>\n<h4>Usage of Cheat with Some Commands<\/h4>\n<p>A tarball may be *.gz or *.bz2 or *.zip or *.xz.
