Thunderbird<\/strong>\u00a0is an open source free cross-platform web based email, news and chat client application that is designed to handle multiple email accounts and news feeds.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0December 28, 2016<\/strong>\u00a0Mozilla team announced the release of\u00a0Thunderbird 45.6.0<\/strong>. This new version comes with these features and they are:<\/p>\n

  1. The system integration dialog was shown every time when starting Thunderbird<\/li>\n
  2. Various bug fixes and improvements in performance.<\/li>\n
  3. Various security fixes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This article will explain you how to install Thunderbird email client on Linux distributions such as\u00a0Fedora<\/strong>,\u00a0Ubuntu<\/strong>and its derivatives.<\/p>\n

    In many Linux distributions Thunderbird package included by default, and can be installed using the default package management system, because it will:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Ensure that you have all the needed libraries<\/li>\n
    2. Adds a Desktop shortcut to launch Thunderbird<\/li>\n
    3. Make Thunderbird accessible to all system users on your computer<\/li>\n
    4. It may not offer you the latest version of Thunderbird<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Install Thunderbird Email Client in Linux<\/h3>\n

      To install\u00a0Thunderbird<\/strong>\u00a0from the default system repositories issue:<\/p>\n

      $ sudo apt-get install thunderbird   [On Ubuntu<\/strong> based systems]\r\n$ dnf install thunderbird            [On Fedora<\/strong> based systems]\r\n<\/pre>\n
      As I said, installing from default repositories will give you older version of Thunderbird. If you want to install most recent version of\u00a0Mozilla Thunderbird<\/strong>, you can use the\u00a0PPA<\/strong>\u00a0maintained by the\u00a0Mozilla<\/strong>\u00a0team.<\/p>\n
      Use\u00a0CTRL + ALT + T<\/strong>\u00a0from the desktop to open terminal and add the Thunderbird repository under\u00a0Ubuntu<\/strong>\u00a0and its derivatives.<\/p>\n
      $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security\/ppa\r\n<\/pre>\n
      Next, update the system software packages using update command.<\/p>\n
      $ sudo apt-get update<\/pre>\n
      Once you\u2019ve updated the system, install it using the following command.<\/p>\n
      $ sudo apt-get install thunderbird<\/pre>\n
