It\u2019s a HUGE collection of all the necessary tools Ubuntu needs to run. The repository is always kept up-to-date with the latest versions of the software. However, you\u2019re already aware that all the software aren\u2019t present in the repository. There are a number of essential tools that you need to get from other sources. Even after grabbing those apps, you have to make sure that they are up-to-date. For solving this issue, Ubuntu features a great method \u2013 PPA.<\/p>\n<p>A PPA (Personal Package Archive) is a special software repository that allows the APT (Advanced Packaging Tool) to automatically grab a specific software from that repository. PPA offers an easier method of getting the latest software without any delay. All you have to do is command \u201capt\u201d to upgrade your system. Most of the world\u2019s PPAs are hosted on <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/\">Launchpad<\/a>. However, there are a number of private PPAs hosted on different sites.<\/p>\n<h2>How to add a PPA<\/h2>\n<p>At first, find out what PPA you need to add. For adding a PPA, it\u2019s the easiest to use the terminal command. The command uses the following structure \u2013<\/p>\n<p>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:abc\/xyz<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s have a quick breakdown of each part of the command.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sudo \u2013 Running the command with \u201croot\u201d privilege.<\/li>\n<li>add-apt-repository \u2013 The tool for adding the PPA.<\/li>\n<li>ppa:abc\/xyz \u2013 The repository code.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For this example, <a href=\"https:\/\/ugetdm.com\/downloads\/ubuntu\/\">we\u2019ll be using the uGet official PPA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Run the following command \u2013<\/p>\n<p>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:plushuang-tw\/uget-stable<\/p>\n<h3>Installing the software<\/h3>\n<p>Now, your system is ready to get your target software. However, make sure that your \u201capt\u201d repository database is up-to-date with the latest addition of the above PPA.<\/p>\n<p>Install uGet \u2013<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxhint.com\/image\/gif;base64,R0lGODdhAQABAPAAAP\/wAAACwAAAAAAQABAEACAkQBADs=\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"493\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Voila! uGet is installed!<\/p>\n<h3>Removing the PPA<\/h3>\n<p>If you don\u2019t need a PPA anymore, it\u2019s best to remove it from your system.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Method 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The best way of removing a PPA is through the command.<\/p>\n<p>Run the following command \u2013<\/p>\n<p>sudo add-apt-repository &#8211;remove ppa:plushuang-tw\/uget-stable<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxhint.com\/image\/gif;base64,R0lGODdhAQABAPAAAP\/wAAACwAAAAAAQABAEACAkQBADs=\" alt=\"\" width=\"964\" height=\"332\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to update your \u201capt\u201d database cache \u2013<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxhint.com\/image\/gif;base64,R0lGODdhAQABAPAAAP\/wAAACwAAAAAAQABAEACAkQBADs=\" alt=\"\" width=\"969\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Method 2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can also remove the PPA using the GUI method.<\/p>\n<p>From the menu, search for \u201csoftware\u201d.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxhint.com\/image\/gif;base64,R0lGODdhAQABAPAAAP\/wAAACwAAAAAAQABAEACAkQBADs=\" alt=\"\" width=\"1242\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Open Software &amp; Updates.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxhint.com\/image\/gif;base64,R0lGODdhAQABAPAAAP\/wAAACwAAAAAAQABAEACAkQBADs=\" alt=\"\" width=\"868\" height=\"496\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Open the \u201cOther Software\u201d tab.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxhint.com\/image\/gif;base64,R0lGODdhAQABAPAAAP\/wAAACwAAAAAAQABAEACAkQBADs=\" alt=\"\" width=\"856\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here, you\u2019ll find out all the PPAs you added in your system over the lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>Select the unwanted PPA(s) and hit \u201cRemove\u201d.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxhint.com\/image\/gif;base64,R0lGODdhAQABAPAAAP\/wAAACwAAAAAAQABAEACAkQBADs=\" alt=\"\" width=\"922\" height=\"522\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When closing, make sure that you reload the software repository database of \u201capt\u201d.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxhint.com\/image\/gif;base64,R0lGODdhAQABAPAAAP\/wAAACwAAAAAAQABAEACAkQBADs=\" alt=\"\" width=\"877\" height=\"514\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Voila!
