Even when I use my Windows machine \u2013 I prefer to have LibreOffice installed instead of Microsoft Office tools any day.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LibreOffice<\/a> 6.2 update, there\u2019s a lot of good stuff to talk about along with a bad news.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s New in LibreOffice 6.2?<\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s have a quick look at the major new features in the <a href=\"https:\/\/itsfoss.com\/libreoffice-6-0-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest release of LibreOffice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The new NotebookBar<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/itsfoss.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/libreoffice-tabbed.png?resize=800%2C434&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"libreoffice tabbed\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A new addition to the interface that is optional and not enabled by default. In order to enable it, go to View -&gt; User Interface -&gt; Tabbed.<\/p>\n<p>You can either set it as a tabbed layout or a grouped compact layout.<\/p>\n<p>While it is not something that is mind blowing \u2013 but it still counts as a significant user interface update considering a variety of user preferences.<\/p>\n<h3>Icon Theme<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/itsfoss.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Libreoffice-style-elementary.png?ssl=1\" alt=\"libreoffice icons\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A new set of icons is now available to choose from. I will definitely utilize the new set of icons \u2013 they look good!<\/p>\n<h3>Platform Compatibility<\/h3>\n<p>With the new update, the compatibility has been improved across all the platforms (Mac, Windows, and Linux).<\/p>\n<h3>Performance Improvements<\/h3>\n<p>This shouldn\u2019t concern you if you didn\u2019t have any issues. But, still, the better they work on this \u2013 it is a win-win for all.<\/p>\n<p>They have removed unnecessary animations, worked on latency reduction, avoided repeated re-layout, and more such things to improve the performance.<\/p>\n<h3>More fixes and improvements<\/h3>\n<p>A lot of bugs have been fixed in this new update along with little tweaks here and there for all the tools (Writer, Calc, Draw, Impress).<\/p>\n<p>To get to know all the technical details, you should check out their <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.documentfoundation.org\/ReleaseNotes\/6.2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release notes.<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>The Sad News: Dropping the support for 32-bit<\/h2>\n<p>Of course, this is not a feature. But, this was bound to happen \u2013 because it was anticipated a few months ago. LibreOffice will no more provide 32-bit binary releases.<\/p>\n<p>This is inevitable. <a href=\"https:\/\/itsfoss.com\/ubuntu-drops-32-bit-desktop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ubuntu has dropped 32-bit support<\/a>. Many other Linux distributions have also stopped supporting 32-bit processors. The number of <a href=\"https:\/\/itsfoss.com\/32-bit-os-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Linux distributions still supporting a <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/itsfoss.com\/32-bit-os-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">32-bit<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/itsfoss.com\/32-bit-os-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> architecture<\/a> is fast dwindling.<\/p>\n<h2>Installing LibreOffice 6.2<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/itsfoss.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/libre-office-6-2-release.png?resize=800%2C450&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Libre Office 6.2 Release\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Your Linux distribution should be providing this update sooner or later.<\/p>\n<p>Arch-based Linux users should be getting it already while Ubuntu and Debian users would have to wait a bit longer.<\/p>\n<p>If you cannot wait, you can either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/download\/download\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/itsfoss.com\/install-deb-files-ubuntu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deb file<\/a> or use this official PPA:<\/p>\n<p>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice\/ppa<br \/>\nsudo apt update<br \/>\nsudo apt install libreoffice<\/p>\n<h2>Wrapping Up<\/h2>\n<p>LibreOffice 6.2 is definitely a major step up to keep it as a better alternative to Microsoft Office for Linux users.<\/p>\n<p>Do you happen to use LibreOffice?
